The United Kingdom Slip Resistance Group (UKSRG)
The United Kingdom Slip Resistance Group (UKSRG) was formed in the early
1980s by a number of parties with a scientific interest in the accurate
assessment of the slipperiness of walkway surfaces.
The UKSRG aims to standardise the methodologies used by forensic scientists
and engineers throughout the United Kingdom. Membership of the Group was
tailored to allow representation of all interested parties, such as Government
bodies (including HSE and the Building Research Establishment (BRE)), flooring
manufacturers, footwear manufacturers and independent forensic scientists
/ engineers. The UKSRG is non-profit making. HSE currently chair the group.
Beware! Slippery Floor; Interactive Game
The game has been developed by QInc and IRSST in Canada to help train kitchen staff in effective floor cleaning techniques, in order to reduce slip accidents. The game is available to download free of charge in English and French languages.
Department for Transport guidance on the correct use of tactile paving Tactile paving is used to help the visually impaired to identify certain hazards, for example, dropped kerbs at pedestrian crossings. However, HSE have come across examples of the "blister" pattern, which is to identify a dropped kerb, being used at the top of a flight of stairs. Someone relying on these tactile pavings would not be expecting a step, and could fall down a whole flight of stairs - a frightening prospect.
