More: Set-up and operation

If the pendulum is not set up and operated correctly, the data may be misleading.

It is important to check how the test was carried out; did the operator follow the set-up and operation as described below?

  • Set-up and calibration of the pendulum Test: BS 7976: 2002 Parts 1 and 3.
  • Operation of the pendulum and interpretation of the data: The United Kingdom Slip Resistance Group (UKSRG) guidelines (Issue 3, 2005).
  • HSE Technical Information Sheet: Assessing the slip resistance of flooring (opens in a new window).
Important: Due to the size of the pendulum, it can be difficult to obtain readings in small areas, such as stair treads. A complementary test method should be used in these situations, eg surface roughness.
