Latex allergies - Radiographer

Case study: Pip

Sector : Radiography

Condition: Latex allergy

Pip worked as a NHS diagnostic radiographer for 17 years. Her job involved dealing with patients while wearing gloves, to protect herself from dangers to her health. She developed an allergic reaction to the powdered latex gloves she wore every day. Because of the problems she suffered Pip was unable to continue in her job.

Pip said, ‘I am disappointed that I can no longer work as a radiographer. I loved my job and to lose my vocation was a terrible blow.’ Her former employer, the NHS trust, compensated Pip with a six-figure sum in an out-of-court settlement for loss of earnings.
