Aquaculture Safety and Health Awareness Day - Tuesday 7 July, Scalloway, Shetland

The Scottish Aquaculture Industry Forum, Chaired by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Health and Safety Executive and Northern Lighthouse Board, would like to invite you to attend a aquaculture and maritime Safety and Health Awareness Day at Blackness Pier, Scalloway, on 7th July 2009.

There is no charge and a free lunch will also be provided.

The event will help you to identify hazards and precautions relevant to your work activities, or refresh your memory of them. Qualified instructors and experience personnel involved in the industry will present practical demonstrations showing you how to avoid the most common causes of accidents and ill health which arise in aquaculture and other marine activities. They will describe simple and cheap precautions which will protect you, employees and others from harm.

Some of the scenarios will be outside so bring appropriate clothing but for bio-security reasons please do not use site work wear.

You will also receive a free information pack containing a range of guidance from HSE, MCA AND RNLI. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions in the company of other farmers and growers, and this will help you to understand more about your legal duties.

Should any member company be willing to support this event, please get in touch with Ann Poyner at Ann.Poyner@hse.gsi.gov.uk.
