Revitalising health and safety: Our priorities

Below are the original 8 industry and topic areas which we first identified to reduce health and safety incidents in Great Britain. We chose these because of:

• the large numbers employed
• the high figures in the incidence rate of injuries or ill health and
• there are unexploited levers to bring about change and success

A new 9th priority, Government Setting an Example (GSE), has been developed to look specifically at improvements which can be made in the public sector.

• Agriculture sector
• Construction sector
• Health services sector
• Falls from height
• Musculoskeletal disorders
• Slips and trips
• Work-related stress
• Workplace transport

These priority programmes have now become part of HSE’s strategic delivery programme, ‘Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow’ (Fit3).
