Steady state vibration of process piping is becoming a better
understood phenomenon with publications such as the MTD
"Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue in
Process Pipework" (Reference 1); steady state vibration is
additionally more easily assessed as part of a vibration survey.
Transient events can result in excess levels of vibration for a short
duration, and this can pose a threat to process piping which is not
always evident.
