OTO 2002/018- FPSO response in long and short crested seas.

Evaluates the differences between floating production storage and off-loadng vessels (FPSOs) motion response in long and short crested wave conditions. Describes a short series of physical model tests that were undertaken to investigate the main differences . Two wave conditions were selected for testing the vessel (nominally a 100 year event and a 1 year event) at a range of relative wave headings. Identifies some significant differences between the response of a moored FPSO in long and short crested sea conditions that could have significant design implications. Emphasises the importance of such structures being tested in representative multi-directional waves, particularly when evaluating the extreme roll response. Tests also indicated dependency on spectral shape and content, and possibly on the loading condition.
