Resistance of semi-submersibles to collisions

Presents a review of the state of guidance relating to the capabilities of semi-submersible vessels (Semi-subs) to resist the effects of collision and provides an assessment of the continuing validity of the likely impact energies in the withdrawn Department of Energy (Den) 4th edition Offshore guidance notes, taking into account the mechanisms of energy absorption of semi-subs and the operations in the new areas of oil exploration in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS). The UKCS Collision incident data up to 2000 were reviewed. Describes risk models that have been proposed to allow the calculation of likelihood and magnitude of collisions for different vessel types, including supply boats, standby vessels and passing vessels. Reports key findings and recommendations.
