It is widely recognised that the drill - floor on an offshore installation is a hazardous area. The design of drill - floors in terms of their layout, the equipment located within them, and the systems provided to the driller for the control of the process, has evolved over time and shows a degree of commonality across installations. however, it is apparent that many drill-floors are far from optimised in terms of human factors.
