Health and Safety Executive Research Ethics Committee

The thirtieth meeting of the Research Ethics Committee will be held on Thursday 13 March 2003 in the Fortune Room, Rose Court, London.

The meeting will begin at 11.00am


AGENDA

1. Introductions and apologies.

2. Minutes of the twenty-ninth meeting - 10 September 2002 (ETHCOM/MIN/02/03).

3. Matters arising (not covered by agenda):

(i) oral update on submissions considered at previous meeting:

  • Assessment of hand-arm vibration risks in woodworking. (ETHCOM/REG/02/12)
    A scoping study of heat stress in tunnelling operations (ETHCOM/REG/02/13)
    Investigation of possible autoimmune responses induced by organophosphate exposure. (ETHCOM/REG/02/14).

    (ii) paragraph 30 – Dr Rawbone to report on progress with paper ETHCOM/MISC/02/01.

    (iii) oral update on submissions considered outwith the REC meeting:

  • paragraph 31 – Measurement of the effectiveness of the arrangements for at scene decontamination of contaminated casualties.
  • Resubmitted study: Work related respiratory symptoms and sensitisation to wheat flour and enzymes in bakers. (ETHCOM/REG/02/05).
  • Loading of crop sprayers (ETHCOM/REG/02/15).

5. New proposals for consideration

  • The assessment of musculo-skeletal loads on ambulance personnel arising from the use of emergency carry chairs (ETHCOM/REG/03/01).
  • Dislodgeable residues from timber treated with copper/chrome/arsenic preservatives. (ETHCOM/REG/03/02).
  • Identifying and evaluating the social and psychological impact of workplace accidents and incidents of ill health of employees and their families across construction and healthcare. (ETHCOM/REG/03/03)
