CRR 395/2001 Assessment of aprons for protection against drop forging projectiles

The knife-drop penetration test from EN 412 was modified to provide performance assessment of equipment for drop forging applications. The different pass / fail criteria, impact energy and impactor design mean that performance in the existing EN 412 test cannot be used as an indication of likely performance in the modified test. Available protective equipment samples of aprons satisfied the requirements of the draft test method. None of the samples was penetrated. States that other aspects of EN 412 can be used as the basis for a full performance standard, and that existing aprons made from metal plate-link are unlikely to offer adequate body protection against impact from moderatley sized projectiles.
