CRR 368/2001 Falls of ground risks in coal mines face roadways

This project was undertaken to improve underground failure mechanisms in reinforced coal mine roadways as longwall faces retreat along them and to develop improved risk techniques for the fall of ground from the roof end sides in such roadways. A detailed study of various sites was taken using numerical models and laboratory testing. This led to the development of a risk assessment technique, using a new type of extensometer, and this was successfully applied at 3 sites.
