European Directives

A proposal for a Council Directive on physical agents, that included specific provisions in separate Annexes on noise, vibration, optical radiation and electromagnetic fields, was first published in 1993. In 1999 the Council agreed to take the four agents forward in individual Directives.

• The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations came into force on 6 July 2005;
• the Control of Noise at Work Regulations came into force on 6 April 2006; and
• Electro Magnetic Fields Directive
• Optical Radiation Directive
