Extensive guidance, for managers and supervisors who control spraying operations, designed to reduce the risk of associated fire and explosion. Reflects the fact that the most widely used industry method of applying paints, lacquers, coats and varnishes is via spray. Accordingly, ten of the most recognised hazards, either involving liquids directly or their vapours, are examined.
Chief among these is any lack of awareness of the flammability of many sprays. While other more obvious dangers, eg smoking, are also considered, less apparent risks, such as the proximity of unprotected electrical equipment or overspray onto walls or floors, are explored. The guidance core concentrates on safety controls under the following key headings: spray methods, spray areas, handling, storage, inspection and maintenance.
