New and expectant mothers at work: A guide for employers
Provides extensive guidance for employers reflecting the reality that some working conditions normally considered acceptable may no longer be so during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Moreover, the guidance emphasises that all employers should also identify hazards and risks for all female employees of childbearing age, particularly to acknowledge the fact that many early pregnancies go undetected for the first four to six weeks.
Aligned to the legal requirements under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, which state that employers must ‘take into account risks to new and expectant mothers when assessing risks in your work activity’, four key areas are considered: breastfeeding; night work; maternity rights; and confidentiality issues. A series of case studies are also documented.
