Sir - Your leader (July 5) recommended that abolition of my organisation would assist company profitability, and so help fund pensions. We at HSE believe, on the contrary, that making a company workplace safer and healthier also makes it more profitable. MORI recently found that 73% of companies believed attention to health and safety benefited their performance, and 64% reported it saved them money in the long term. The sensible approach to health and safety is not to go over the top eliminating risks but to manage them.
