Dear Editor,
I read with interest your story about the samba band in Lerryn being banned from the village hall ("Drummed out of the village as samba beat falls foul of locals", 24 February)
Reference is made to other village events which have "fallen foul of health and safety regulations". I understand from the village website that the issues to do with the mud rugby and May Pole event are to do with insurance and litter, not health and safety regulations.
Health and safety rules are enforced to save lives and protect people from serious injury and ill-health. The Health and Safety Executive is not responsible for noise nuisance or insurance issues.
I hope this clarifies matters.
Yours Sincerely,
Rosi Edwards
