Dear Editor
Re: "Health and safety chief set himself on fire" - 17 February 2011
I would like to clarify that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will not be receiving £5,000 in court costs as stated in the article "Health and safety chief set himself on fire" (Daily Telegraph 17 February). The prosecution against Philip Dutton was brought to court by Southend Borough Council and the HSE had no involvement in this case. The court costs will be paid to Southend Borough Council.
Yours sincerely
Heather Bryant
Regional Director for the East of England
Health and Safety Executive
