HSE responds to Oban Times McCaig column - "Buy a poppy this week"

16 November 2010

Sir,

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have not "required" poppy makers not to use pins as poppy stems as your columnist suggests (McCaig, "Buy a poppy this week", 11 November).

The HSE adopts a common sense approach to health and safety and encourages others to do the same. Our responsibilities are focused on preventing death, serious injuries and illness.

It is up to an individual to decide how to wear their poppy.

Yours sincerely

Dr Paul Stollard
Regional Director, Scotland
