HSE responds to the Scottish Daily Express letter - "Health and safety zealots should redirect efforts"

24 September 2010

Dear Sir,

In response to your letter "Health and safety zealots should redirect efforts" (24 Sept 2010), I can assure you that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does not regulate cakes.

HSE in no way attempts to meddle in community activities and does not have any guidance to prevent the Adlington and District Millennium Committee volunteers' group baking cakes.

HSE is about real health and safety, regulating some of the most hazardous industries in the UK such as offshore and nuclear. Real health and safety is about avoiding death, serious injury and ill health in the workplace, not stopping fundraising activities in local communities.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Paul Stollard
Regional Director, Scotland
Health and Safety Executive
