Responding to a report in yesterday's (19.04.12) Evening Standard relating to the cancellation by the London 2012 Organising Commitee (LOCOG) of a proposed Olympic opening ceremony event on the River Thames, HSE has released this satement;
"The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been made aware of the cancellation of a plans to carry the Olympic flame down the Thames on a replica of an ancient Greek warship, because of concerns about crowd control.
"While the staging of this event and cancellation is solely a matter for LOCOG and the relevant authorities involved, we will make contact with the parties to offer any assistance we can in dealing with the matter."
