Caravan, camping and holiday parks across the South West are being offered expert health and safety advice in the run-up to the summer tourist season, thanks to a series of free events hosted by local authorities in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and South West Tourism.
These half-day health and safety awareness events will take place from the end of January until the beginning of March and be held in the following locations in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset:
Aimed at raising awareness of the key health and safety issues affecting the caravan and camping industry, the events will include a variety of presentations on such topics as risk assessment, gas and electricity safety, fire regulations, Legionnaires Disease and asbestos. Also, there will be optional sessions on crime prevention, swimming pool management, play equipment and marketing.
Max Walker, HSE Head of Operations for the South West, said:
"The caravan, camping and holiday park sector is a very important part of the tourist industry in the South West and looks after thousands of visitors each year. Anyone working in this industry needs to keep health and safety issues at the forefront of their mind - especially when the summer season is at its peak.
"Accidents are bad news for individuals, businesses and reputations. No one can afford - either in monetary terms or simple human terms - to treat safety lightly. This is why we and our partners have put together this series of events which will give useful, practical and easily implemented advice to those who, hopefully, will find it of most use."
