I am really delighted that the Health & Safety Executive asked me to play a role in their new Asbestos awareness campaign - The Hidden Killer.
When I was told the fact that - 20 workmen are dying each week in the UK from asbestos related diseases, I was staggered - it really hit home, especially having worked in the building trade as a plasterer myself before my football career took off. I just thought if there were 20 premiership players dying each week, we would have no league in just 3 months!
I don't often get the chance to help save lives, but I hope that by being an ambassador for The Hidden Killer campaign, I can play a part in helping prevent future asbestos related deaths.
