HSE final report on potential breaches of biosecurity at the Pirbright site 2007 - notification of erratum

E046-07 20 December 2007

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has today published on its website a corrected version of its report 'Final report on potential breaches of biosecurity at the Pirbright site 2007' at http://www.hse.gov.uk/news/archive/07aug/finalreport.pdf.

This version has at paragraph 142 the following corrected text:

"Our investigations in the laboratory used by Stabilitech identified some issues relating to records of when stocks of chemicals had been made up. The issues related to the standardised method of preparation and higher concentrations than necessary being used. While this was not regarded as good practice, this was not considered significant."

HSE wishes to make clear that this correction does not affect any of the conclusions drawn or recommendations made in the report published on 7 September 2007. HSE apologises to Stabilitech Ltd for this error.

Notes to editors

1. HSE's report into its investigation of potential breaches of biosecurity at the Pirbright site was presented to government on 7 September 2007 - see news release E032-07 at http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2007/e07032.htm.

2. HSE has corrected one paragraph of its report following representation made by Stabilitech Ltd.
