HSE launches new Freedom of Information website
HSE Press Release: E002:05 - 4 January 2005
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) today unveiled a Freedom
of information (FOI) website to coincide with the first working day
of the new Act. This website will provide the means for the public both
to access information as it becomes available and request information not
already published.
Key features include:
- the Publication Scheme, restructured to include full text of HSE’s
internal operational guidance for field staff, hazardous industries inspectors
and nuclear installations inspectors;
- HSE’s corporate retention policy, detailing the principles surrounding
disposal of records and the disposal arrangements for the various classes
of information; and
- HSE’s charging policy for providing information under FOI.
The introduction of the new website embodies the commitment to the principles
of FOI made by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and Executive in their
revised joint statement on openness. This states that HSE aims to:
- share what we know;
- find out what information held by us people need, and try to provide
it;
- inform, consult and engage with others on important proposals;
- consider information and views received about health and safety; and
- be open about how and why we make decisions.
