Colin Douglas has been appointed to the post of Director of Communications at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
This is a new post and Colin's remit is to make HSE and Health and Safety Commission communications more effective in improving health and safety. Colin will take up his appointment on 5 January 2004.
Colin has worked on communications issues since graduating from the University of Oxford with a degree in philosophy, politics and economics. After a career in local government press and publicity, he joined Citigate Westminster in 1994, where he rose to be Deputy Managing Director.
He has since worked for Sport England and Transport for London. He is currently Director of Communications at the Audit Commission.
Since 1995, Colin has been a non Executive Director and Vice Chairman of the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
Colin is 40 and is married with 2 children.
1. The HSE is the operational arm of the HSC; together they are the public bodies responsible for ensuring that workers and public are protected from harm.
2. The appointment was made following an open competition that considered candidates from both the public and private sectors.
