A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH - HSE TO LAUNCH NEW VIDEO ON DRY-CLEANING

A new training video which deals with the health and safety risks from dry-cleaning is being launched by HSE on 13 April 2003 at the Annual Conference of the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers and Textiles Services Association.

Dry-cleaning is a safe industry when it is managed well and the processes are properly controlled. When things go wrong there can be leaks of toxic dry-cleaning solvent or even explosions. This video, aimed at anyone involved in the dry-cleaning industry, should help to prevent these sorts of accidents.

The video 'A clean bill of health: Health and safety in the dry-cleaning industry', describes the processes in a typical drycleaners, points out the hazards and gives guidance on how these hazards can be controlled.

It opens with the manager giving a trainee a guided health and safety tour of a typical dry-cleaning premises. Animated sequences show how the dry-cleaning machine works. A visit by an engineer illustrates the safety checks that need to be carried out on a dry-cleaning machine to prevent leaks of the dry-cleaning fluid. Then a health and safety inspector visits and checks to see how well the risks are being managed.
