HSE Press Release E02:170 - 6 September 2002
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is hosting a conference on 18 September to discuss the results of a four-year research project, HarsNet (Thematic Network on the Hazard Assessment of Highly Reactive Systems), aimed at producing chemical reaction hazard guidance.
The conference - entitled the Fourth UK HarsNet Forum - will be held on 18 September 2002 at the Birchwood Conference Centre, Birchwood, Warrington.
The four-year HarsNet project ends in September 2002 and has been funded by the European Commission. It set out to produce guidance to industry and academia on the assessment and control of chemical reaction hazards. Thirty-three organisations, including HSE, have taken part in the project.
The half-day conference will discuss the outcomes of the project. It will involve a number of invited speakers from industry who have participated in the project or who have been associated with it. The interactive guidance that is available on the website www.harsnet.de will be discussed, as will the value of HarsNet to the process industries, particularly those small and medium sized enterprises who are carrying out chemical reactions in batch and semi-batch reactors.
