Improving access to blow down pumps

The problem

Accessing ‘Blow Down Pumps’ and alarms was proving to be a difficult manoeuvre for engineers required to carry out work in this area. Not only were they required to step over a metal cable carrier they also had to stoop, simultaneously, under green pipework, sometimes while carrying heavy equipment such as toolboxes or heavy pumps. This manoeuvre posed significant risk of injury such as overexertion or strains, trips and falls.

The benefits

• Awkward postures and poor manual handling techniques have been eliminated.
• The costs were minimal as materials already present on site were utilised as well as the skills of the on-site engineering team.
