Regulatory Update 22/2007

Forthcoming revocation of off-label UK uses of Pyrimethanil on certain types of cane fruit and leafy brassicas grown for baby leaf production.

A decision was taken at the July meeting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health that will have a significant bearing on some authorised off-label uses of pyrimethanil in the UK.

On the basis of proposals from the Commission services, the Standing Committee voted to lower to the limit of determination (LOD) the Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) set for pyrimethanil in cane fruit (other than blackberries and raspberries), as well as the MRL applying to brassicas grown for baby leaf production. A Commission Directive should be published shortly to put this decision into effect.

Regulatory Update 11/2007

Release of limited amounts of Sipcam UK Ltd chlorothalonil containing pesticides.

As part of an on-going investigation into the alleged illegal supply of chlorothalonil containing products Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) has issued an Enforcement Notice to prevent the movement of a large quantity of Sipcam UK Ltd fungicide, mainly Clortosip 500 (MAPP No 09320). Sipcam have challenged this action in the High Court and sought the release product for onward supply but their application for Judicial Review has only been granted to a very limited extent. Distributors are advised that the vast majority of product involved remains subject to the Enforcement Notice. Any attempt to remove this product or supply it will constitute a breach of the notice and may constitute and offence under the regulations.

Withdrawal of Joules (MAPP 11047) - Important information for users/purchasers.

This update explains the regulatory action recently taken by PSD in relation to unapproved versions of the chlorothalonil containing product "Joules" (MAPP 11047 - approval holder Nufarm). During an investigation into the supply of chlorothalonil products, analysis showed that the formulation of much of the marketed material was significantly different from that specified in the Approval Notice. As a result, PSD is now requiring the approval holder to remove the unapproved versions from the market.
