Air

In general Annex II environmental fate data relates to the behaviour of the active substance and its metabolites (eg to allow understanding of degradation in soil, water, sediment and air, and also to determine the likely partitioning between different environmental compartments, such as between soil and water, or between water and sediment for example).

Annex III environmental fate data generally relates to the calculation of predicted environmental concentrations (PECs) in all relevant compartments. This can involve relatively simple calculations for soil or water via spray drift, or more complex modelling using agreed European tools such as the FOCUS models to simulate long term leaching behaviour to groundwater.

Specific guidance for the calculation of PECair is currently under development and applicants are advised to follow the approaches in the community level evaluation in the first instance.

Further information can be found on the FOCUS website with the PPR Panel opinion in full as an Annex. Pesticides in air: considerations for exposure assessment.
