Microsoft Word Viewer is a freeware program that allows users who do not own Microsoft Word to view and print documents that were created in Word. You cannot edit an open document in Word Viewer; however, you can copy text to the Clipboard to paste it into other applications. You cannot run macros in any version of Word Viewer. This means that you cannot receive a Word macro virus by reading a document with Word Viewer.
Microsoft Word 97 and Microsoft Word 2000 share a common file format; therefore, Word Viewer 2003 can read and display documents created in Word 97 and Word 2000. Word 2000 has some advanced features that are not part of Word 97, and these features may not appear correctly in Word Viewer 97-2000. Some examples include nested tables, text wrapping around tables, Web frames pages and advanced Web formatting.
If you are using a Windows 3.1 operating system you will need to obtain the file wdviewer.exe Word Viewer 2003. This can be downloaded from Microsoft at www.microsoft.com.
