Environmental Safety Evaluation of Microbial Biocontrol Agents

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published guidance to the environmental safety evaluation of microbial biocontrol agents.

This document was noted in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health on 28 September 2012, as SANCO/12117/2012 –rev. 0 (September 2012).

As explained in the introduction of the document, the guidance was written for Member States and industry risk assessors and scientists involved in the authorisation and approval of microbial plant protection products and their active agents. However, it is considered to be an OECD 'working document' and is therefore intended to be used only as guidance in the safety assessment of micro-organisms and microbial plant protection products. It will be applicable to applications submitted from 1 July 2013 onwards; but it is not a requirement which has to be followed nor does it provide mandatory guidance
