Status: Akan was founded in 1963 and is a tripartite collaboration between the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), the Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry (NHO), and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Principal functions and activities: AKAN's objective is to prevent drug and alcohol abuse in Norwegian workplaces and also to see to it that employees with abuse problems get help. AKAN's activities are based on collaboration between employers and employees. A defined drug and alcohol policy and clear guidelines for dealing with drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace are important elements in AKAN's activities.

Principal functions and activities: The Labour Inspection has administrative, supervisory and information responsibilities in respect to the Working Environment Act, the Annual Holidays Act, the Guaranteed Wages Act. The overall objective of the organisation is a completely sound and healthy working environment for all, with safe and secure employment conditions and meaningful work for the individual.
