European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals (ECETOC)

Status: International scientific association

Principal functions and activities: ECETOC was established in 1978 by a number of leading manufacturers and users of chemicals to provide a scientific forum, through which the
extensive specialist expertise in the companies could be harnessed to research, review, assess and publish studies on the ecotoxicology and toxicology of chemicals.

European Consumer Safety Association (ECOSA)

Status: Foundation

Principal functions and activities: Provides a forum to discuss and analyse consumer safety matters at national and international level. Promotes an exchange of knowledge and experience among experts and institutes with the aim of improving home, leisure and product safety. The ultimate objective is to reduce injuries and deaths due to home and leisure accidents. ECOSA collects information on accident statistics and carries out research into the epidemiology as well as the preventability of injuries.

European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions

Status: The European Foundation is an autonomous community body. It was established by a regulation of the EC Council of Ministers of 26 May 1975. This regulation was the result of joint deliberations between the social partners, national government and community institutions on the ways and means of solving the ever-growing problems associated with improving living and working conditions.

Principal functions and activities: The association was founded in 1972 in order to provide a professional forum for the exchange of information and experience about the work of labour inspection and to promote closer co-operation between the authorities and institutions concerned with such work.
