Transporting radioactive material
As well as setting safety and security standards at existing and proposed civil nuclear facilities, it is important that the transport of radioactive material is regulated.
Radioactive Materials Transport programme is responsible for this and they joined ONR in October 2011.
Formerly part of the Department for Transport, the RMT programme regulates the transport of radioactive material by road and rail in Great Britain.
RMT's transfer to ONR represents another step in the transformation of our organisation to a single, integrated regulator.
