HSE and the Environment Agency plan to conclude their initial assessment of the safety, security and environmental reports for the four designs which met the Government’s criteria by the end of March 2008.
This work will be undertaken on a contingent basis alongside the Government’s nuclear consultation, launched on 23 May 2007, and will be discontinued if, following this consultation, the Government concludes that it would not be appropriate for private companies to be allowed to invest in new nuclear power stations.
