Foreword

This report is issued as part of the Health and Safety Executive's commitment to make information about inspection and regulatory activities relating to the above site available to the public. It is for distribution to members of the Berkeley Power Station and Centre Site Stakeholder Group, SSG, and covers activities associated with the regulation of safety at Berkeley Power Station and Centre. These reports are distributed quarterly. Site Inspectors of HM Nuclear Installations Inspectorate attend meetings and will be happy to respond to questions raised there by members of the SSG. Summary

Berkeley was visited for routine inspections and meetings on one occasion during this quarter. The visit was made on the following dates:

The main thrust in this period has been concerned with Berkeley’s continued compliance with the requirements of the Nuclear Site Licence and the challenges presented by the revised programme of work following reduced NDA funding.

Routine matters

Routine inspections

The NII site inspector held discussions regarding an Active Effluent Treatment Plant overflow event that occurred on March 20. Site investigations have revealed causal factors that include poor procedural control and lack of preventative maintenance. NII site inspector will follow up on these issues.

Regulatory activity

Licence Instruments

The Inspectorate has power under the Licence to issue Consents, Approvals and Directions.  In addition, the Inspectorate uses Licence Instruments to issue Specifications and Agreements under the conditions attached to the Licence.

No Licence Instruments were issued during the period.
