Bradwell was visited for inspections and meetings on one occasion during this period, the inspection being of a routine nature. The visit was made on the following dates:
The main thrust in this period has been concerned with Bradwell’s continued compliance with the requirements of the nuclear site licence and continued progress in entering the decommissioning phase of the station’s lifecycle.
Routine inspections were carried out against the following Licence Conditions (LC) in this quarter:
Discussions were held with individual project leaders. The projects teams are well populated with experienced project planners and decommissioning personnel, some of whom have previous experience of decommissioning nuclear facilities in the USA. Removal of asbestos based lagging materials from the boiler houses is progressing well. Clean up of the cooling pond and preparations for decommissioning of the pond structure and associated plant is ongoing. Site stated that a dissolution process was still being considered for the processing of some ILW.
Discussions were held with the team who are producing the rebasline (post defuelled) decommissioning safety case. This safety case will be reviewed by NII in early 2007.
