This report is issued as part of the Health and Safety Executive's commitment to make information about inspection and regulatory activities relating to the above site available to the public. It is for distribution to members of the Berkeley Power Station and Centre Site Stakeholder Group, SSG, and covers activities associated with the regulation of safety at Berkeley Power Station and Centre. These reports are distributed quarterly. Site Inspectors of HM Nuclear Installations Inspectorate attend meetings and will be happy to respond to questions raised there by members of the SSG. The site inspector, and in some instances specialist inspectors, made the following visits during the period:

Inspection of the Berkeley site has continued during the quarter at a frequency commensurate with current activities. These have included arrangements for appointment of Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons and Decommissioning. Any concerns identified were resolved with site management team at the time.
An Emergency Exercise Planning Meeting and the NDA Lifetime Plan Review were attended.During routine operations in the BIL A 12 calibration facility a radioactive source was expelled from its exposure tube. No personnel were exposed. The source was safely retrieved following scrutiny of the method to be used in accordance with the Licensee’s arrangements. The site initiated an investigation into the event which is reportable as a Dangerous Occurrence under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995.
The Inspectorate has power under the Licence to issue Consents, Approvals and Directions. In addition the Inspectorate uses Licence Instruments to issue Specifications and Agreements under the conditions attached to the Licence. None were issued during the period.
