FOREWORD

The report is issued as part of the Health and Safety Executive's commitment to make information about inspection and regulatory activities relating to the above site available to the public. It is for distribution to members of the Capenhurst District Liaison Committee and covers activities associated with the regulation of safety at Capenhurst. These reports are distributed quarterly. Site Inspectors of HM Nuclear Installations Inspectorate normally attend DLC meetings and will be happy to respond to questions raised there or subsequently by members of the DLC. Any other person wishing to inquire about matters covered by this report should contact the HSE, Nuclear Directorate Information Centre on 0151 951 4103.

1. INSPECTIONS

Inspection visits have been made on 4 July, 10 July, 16 July, 19 July, 30 July, 11 August and 29 August 2002.

2. ROUTINE MATTERS

2.1 Compliance with Conditions Attached to the Nuclear Site Licence

Nothing to report this period.

2.2 Relicensing

A significant amount of work has been undertaken by HSE, and Urenco to enable relicensing to take place in the near future. An application from Urenco to make changes to the licensed site boundary is currently being progressed.

2.3 Resources for Managing the Site

Nothing to report this period.

2.4 Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Regulations 2001

Nothing to report this period.

2.5 Quinquennial Review of Decommissioning

Nothing to report this period.

2.6 Emergency Preparedness

A night time inspection of emergency escape routes and manning levels was undertaken on 11 August. Arrangements were considered satisfactory.

2.7 Dosimetry Services

Nothing to report this period.

2.8 Continued Operations Safety Reports

Nothing to report this quarter. Other Regulatory Compliance Issues

An inspection of arrangements under Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 for activities in Building 37 (waste treatment) was undertaken. Advice has been given to the employer, Urenco, seeking improvements in compliance arrangements.

No incidents or accidents affecting nuclear safety have been notified to NII in this period.
