This Intervention was a routine Level 4 meeting with the Licensee (EDF Nuclear Generation Ltd – EDF NGL) to allow discussion of a number of topics relating to Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (AGR) fuel. The Intervention was conducted under Licence Condition 23 (LC 23) i.e. in ensuring that the Licensee has adequate safety cases in the topic areas under discussion.
The Intervention (against LC 23) consisted of a series of presentations made by the Licensee and the resultant discussions around these presentations.
In all the areas discussed I felt that the Licensee’s presentations were of a good quality and that the appropriate experts were present, for each topic area, to answer questions. All questions I asked on the material presented I felt were answered fully and to my satisfaction. The meeting was conducted in a spirit of openness. I hence judge that no further regulatory action is required at this juncture on any of the topics discussed.
The Intervention provided for a useful exchange of information between the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Licensee and on the basis of this information and the subsequent discussion, no further regulatory action is required.
