Working for ONR

Currently, ONR employs around 450 staff who carry out various activities relating to nuclear safety.  Sixty per cent of our staff are technical staff qualified to honours degree level or above. Technical staff join only after they have the equivalent status of corporate members of a senior professional engineering or scientific institution. This means that most of them will have been in industry for ten years or more before joining ONR.

ONR’s work calls for a high level of expertise and a wide range of disciplines. All the technical skills found in any engineering based industry can be found in ONR, as well as reactor physics, radiological  protection and a number of specialised areas.
The other staff within ONR are professional administrative civil servants, carrying out corporate and business support functions and they are vital to the effective operations of ONR.
