A HSE spokesperson said: "The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has this week been carrying out its on-site investigation into the explosion in Shrewsbury town centre Sunday 3 January. While the investigation into how the explosion occurred will continue for some time, the on-site investigation is now complete.
"This means the site has now been returned to the local authority. The actual cause of the explosion is still to be determined and HSE will continue its investigation over the coming weeks. HSE would like to thank those in the surrounding area for their patience while the on-site investigation was carried out."
A HSE spokesperson said: "A team of Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors and specialists from the Health and Safety Laboratories (HSL) is continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion in Shrewsbury town centre on Sunday 3 January. The team has been on site all day and is likely to be there all week.
"The cordon around the site is still in place today, but it is expected to be significantly reduced later this evening (around 1900)."
A HSE spokesperson said: "The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was made aware of the explosion at the block of flats in Shrewsbury town centre on Sunday 3 January and is investigating how the explosion occurred. A team of HSE inspectors and specialists from the Health and Safety Laboratories (HSL) have been on site today to begin preliminary inquiries. The actual cause of the explosion is still to be determined and HSE staff are likely to remain on site all week."
"While the gas supply to the site has been made safe, the cordon around the site will stay in place overnight to preserve the investigation scene. It's expected the cordon will be significantly reduced around the town centre tomorrow."
