Major companies are signing up for the new BSC Awards Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work which aims to provide all employees with a nationally-recognised qualification in health and safety.
Based on the relevant national occupational standards, the Certificate is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 1 in the National Qualifications Framework which means that employers can apply for funding from the Learning and Skills Council.
For a fee of just £250, companies become registered centres and receive a photocopiable pack containing lesson plans, Powerpoint slides and full-colour handouts. Employers are given the flexibility to prepare candidates as they wish and then book the 40-question multiple-choice examination in-company and on-demand for just £12 per candidate. Answer sheets are returned to BSC Awards for marking with results and certificates issued within five working days. BSC Awards Qualifications Manager, Adam Skeens, commented: "The in-company, on-demand scheme offers a flexible learning and assessment solution whereby organisations can incorporate the qualification into their existing health and safety training programme, then allow candidates time to assimilate the learning materials before arranging an examination on a date and at a time of their choosing."
