Generic Design Assessment (GDA) - Reports

A number of reports have been published by HSE and the Environment Agency following the recent conclusion of the initial assessment stage of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process for the four nuclear power station designs being considered by the regulators.

Separate reports from both HSE and the Environment Agency on their initial assessment carried out on each of the four designs.

'The Civil Nuclear Reactor New Build Programme - Generic Design Assessment - Initial Report to Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations from the GDA Process Review Board', March 2008

The first report of the independent Process Review Board established by HSE to provide external scrutiny of the GDA process for assessing new nuclear reactor designs. This followed a short review, conducted in February 2008, with the aim of evaluating HSE's initial assessment of GDA and advising the Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations on any lessons to be learnt for the future stages of the GDA process.


'GDA Step 2 Summary of Overseas Regulatory Assessments', March 2008

Report of the safety reviews carried out on the four designs subject to the GDA process by nuclear safety regulators in the USA, Canada, France, Germany and Finland. Describes existing bilateral and multilateral collaboration with these regulators, and makes recommendations on how might collaborate more closely with these regulators in the future.
