When the requesting parties for each reactor design have addressed the outstanding GDA Issues to our satisfaction, we will be in a position to consider issuing a Design Acceptance Confirmation (DAC) and Statement of Design Acceptability (SoDA), which will be supported by final reports of our assessment.
Getting a DAC and SoDA for the generic designs is one part of a larger requirement placed on the designers and prospective licencees of new power plants before any reactors can be built.
Any prospective licencee of a new power station also needs to apply for and be granted a nuclear site licence by the Office for Nuclear Regulation and environmental permits from the Environment Agency. It would also need to complete a process of preparing safety reports to support the Office for Nuclear Regulation's consideration as to whether to grant a 'consent' to commence construction. It would also need to receive other permissions from bodies including the Planning Inspectorate.
