e-Bulletins
The e-Bulletin provides an update of the latest news and information from HSE's Nuclear Directorate, which incorporates the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII). It will be issued every 6-8 weeks initially, although this may vary in light of feedback.

Office for Civil Nuclear Security (OCNS) and UK Safeguards Office (UKSO) join HSE (published April 2007)
On 1 April 2007, the security activities of OCNS and operational safeguards work of UKSO transferred from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to HSE. The staff in both areas also transferred with their work. To reflect the wider portfolio of work being undertaken by HSE, the Nuclear Safety Directorate has become the Nuclear Directorate. THORP investigation report (published February 2007)
HSE published a report on its investigation into the leak at Sellafield's Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (THORP). NII has also produced a report describing NII's assessment of the British Nuclear Group Sellafield Limited's application for consent to restart THORP.

Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) 2006 (published March 2007)
The SAPs website has been updated to reflect the following:
that the web version is the only definitive version of the SAPs and that a limited number of printed copies (uncontrolled) are available for those with difficulties downloading;
a link to the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) reference levels;
a record of discussion points raised at the SAPs seminar held on 26 January, along with the presentations from the event;
a resolution table which addresses the comments received during the formal stakeholder engagement period; how individuals can request to be notified of any future revisions of the SAPs.

Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) (published January 2007)
This programme is the European Union's main instrument for funding research and technological development (RTD). FP7 replaced the current programme (FP6) on 1 January 2007 and will run for seven years.

New nuclear reactors: Guidance on generic design assessment (published January 2007)
Guidance aimed primarily towards those companies that may wish to design and construct new nuclear power stations in the UK. These are working documents and comments are welcomed.
