Neal’s first full time job was at Bletchley Park, but after two years he transferred to the Royal Air Force, where he completed 22 years’ service, the last 18 years as a Bomb Disposal Officer. Towards the end of this career he was a BD Instructor in Lincolnshire. After retirement from the RAF, he pursued a new career as a Health and Safety Manager, and has now completed 23 years working for various food manufacturing companies in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.
Neal uses his profession partly as a hobby, being on the Safety Groups UK committee, the Secretary of the Peterborough Safety group and he also sits on the British Meat Producers Association safety forum. All is not work related and he has a number of private hobbies that include renovating classic cars and lorries, steam railways from mainline preservation to building live steam models, motor sport, running a Tractor Pulling team for 20 years, both building the tractors and driving them, and latterly motorcycle drag racing.
In the past Neal was involved in the Television programme "Scrapheap challenge" over 5 years as a technical consultant and Judge /expert. He is an Engineer basically, with high levels of skills across the whole spectrum. He also became a Justice of the Peace 7 years ago and has been involved in a number of Health and Safety cases in court. He has always been keen to promote practical Health and Safety, for safety reasons, rather than justifying other actions through Health and Safety. This would appear to work as he has built up a considerable reputation within the industry by developing strong safety cultures and has won a number of prestigious awards for his employers.
