Andy is currently the Director of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment at Cardiff University. He is a firm believer in the proportionate and sensible application of safety regulations; enabling not stifling. At the same time Andy is a proponent of safety and environmental management systems and Cardiff University is certified to both ISO 14001 and BS OSHAS 18001.
A chartered member of IOSH, Andy has a broad knowledge of safety & occupational health and is a qualified lead auditor. Andy's academic qualifications are in the field of biology and biochemistry, which first sparked Andy's interest in safety, and led to him undertake the NEBOSH diploma in 2001. Andy has worked in the private sector, managed accommodation services for students and been the safety manager in a large estates & facilities department, working with capital project managers and maintenance teams within the Higher Education and NHS sectors. His role today is varied, reflecting the huge range of activities being undertaken across the University.
In his spare time Andy maintains active links with the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (South Wales) and can be found most weekends in the Brecon Beacons on training exercises, often working with colleagues in the local mountain rescue teams in the harshest of conditions.
